School Playground

Pictures show a recent contract to redesign and install two playground areas at Merewether Heights Public School in Newcastle.

The job had to be completed during the school holidays to avoid the inconvenience of noisy and messy construction while the kids were there.  Although the project did extend 3 days into the first term the whole job was managed so that only the light 'finishing touches' were underway at that point.  It was also a real treat to be able to meet the kids and teachers and get their very positive feedback, as well as to see their appreciative expressions!

Our client requested a continuation of existing concrete terraced seating, extending this up the grassed embankment, as well as building a stairway from the carpark at the top leading down to the pathways around the school buildings.

Timber was suggested as an alternative to concrete, with decorative pebble fill at the lower levels and turf at upper levels.

All timber was treated with exterior deck and timber oil.  Steps were finished with compacted decomposed granite (ryolite).      Home
